Digging In When It Gets Hard

Encouraging Perseverance Before the Finish Line

We are entering the final stretch of the school year, and it’s natural for students to feel tired, distracted, or ready for summer. It’s not unusual for motivation to dip just when the work still matters most. As parents and teachers partnering together, this is a great opportunity to help our students grow in perseverance.

One of the most valuable lessons students can learn is how to keep going when something feels difficult or when they don’t feel like finishing. These moments—when it would be easier to check out—are where resilience is built.

As a parent, your role is not to remove the challenge, but to walk alongside your child through it. Ask simple questions like, “What’s one small step you can take today?” or “How can I support you as you finish this well?” And, let’s be sure to celebrate the effort, not just the outcome. Students need to be reminded that finishing strong is part of their character, not just their grade.

The finish line of the 2025-2026 school year is in sight!
