Phillips Claims Back-to-Back State Title

Members of the Grace Prep track teams competed in the TAPPS 4A State Meet in Waco last Saturday. Kennedy Phillips won her second TAPPS 4A state shot put crown in as many seasons, besting the second place competitor by 15 inches. The sophomore earned first team all-state honors with her title. The Lions also claimed a pair second team all-state accolades with their runner-up finishes: freshman Lydia Curreri in the 1600m, and the boys’ 4x100m relay team of senior Matthew Tucker, junior Tahj Chambers, sophomore Daryn Carruthers, and senior D.J. Oats.

Also competing at the meet were senior Hannah Turner (girls’ 4x100m relay), junior Rheagan Smith (girls’ 4x100m relay), sophomore Jaylah Suggs (girls’ 4x100m relay, high jump, and triple jump), and freshmen Luke Moore (boys’ 3200m) and Becca Turner (girls’ 4x100m relay)
