Junior High after school expectations

Junior High After-School Expectations

We love having our junior high students on campus, and we want after school to be a safe and productive time for everyone. Lately, though, we have seen a growing number of students lingering after dismissal: wandering the halls, gathering on the porch, and hanging out in areas that are not supervised. We need your help resetting this habit.

On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, the expectation after dismissal is simple. Students should stop by their lockers for what they need and then go directly to one of three places: Math Lab, the Testing Center, or the front of the school to wait for their ride.

Students who stay for Math Lab are expected to remain there, working, until their ride arrives. Students waiting to be picked up should wait in the front lobby or outside at pickup, not elsewhere in the building.

We are regularly finding students still in the halls 20 minutes or more after dismissal who say they are “on their way to Math Lab.” Going forward, students in this situation will be asked to call home and have their ride come pick them up right away. Students who repeatedly choose to wander rather than go where they belong may lose the privilege to stay on campus after school for Math Lab.

Our faculty and staff have meetings, practices, rehearsals, and other responsibilities after school, and they are not able to supervise students throughout the building. Clear expectations protect your student’s safety and allow our teachers to do the work they are here to do.

Please take a few minutes this week to talk with your junior high student about these expectations. A conversation at home goes a long way, and it helps us partner together to grow students who show Heart, Honor, and Humility in the small moments, including the ones after the bell rings.

Thank you for your support.

Mr. Lydecker & Mrs. Foster
