Parents – we are loving our time with your students in Chapel. We are studying the book of John this year, and here are some recaps from what they experienced this week. You are the primary discipler of your child, so be sure to read through these recaps and then use it to have discussion with your kids. Take advantage of meal times, times in the car or wherever you find yourself alone and undistracted. (You might have to intentionally make alone, undistracted time!)

7th and 8th Grade: You student was in Chapel Discussion in their Roar Class. It is designed to be a parallel lesson on the topic. Here is the Discussion Sheet the teacher used. Review and and use it to have some spiritual conversations – you can do it!

9th and 10th Grade: Your child had Chapel Solitude this week: a time where they work quietly on their own through a worksheet. Our goal is to help students develop the ability to be quiet and listen to God. Here is the worksheet they had to work through. Read through it and use it to ask questions!

11th and 12th Grade: We kicked off our chapel series this month by looking at Jesus’ words in John 8:12: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”

As we begin this year focusing on the heart of Jesus, students were reminded that Jesus is not simply a source of guidance or one voice among many. He is the Light of the world. His light reveals who God is, exposes the darkness of sin in our hearts, and leads us into true life. Following Jesus means more than simply knowing about Him—it means trusting Him, turning from sin, and allowing Him to lead us.

We encouraged students to consider the many things that can function as “light” in our lives—friends, achievement, sports, grades, relationships, social media, or our own feelings. These things may offer guidance or encouragement, but Jesus alone gives the lasting light and life we were created for.

• How could you reflect Jesus’ light to someone at school this week?
