Eight Lions Continue Athletic Careers

Eight Grace Prep seniors signed letters of intent to continue their athletic pursuits at the collegiate level on April 22, 2026.

Alyssa Bachli will compete at Wentworth Institute of Technology in the fall as a member of the volleyball team. Located in Boston, the Leopards are a members of the Conference of New England and NCAA Division III. Bachli, who plans to major in architecture and interior design, was a member of the two-time TAPPS 4A state champion volleyball team at Grace Prep. She garnered academic all-state and all-district honors during high school.

Lanie Herbig will play tennis next year for Concordia University Texas, located in Austin. The Tornados are members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III. Herbig was part of a state qualifying doubles team as a sophomore. She plans to major in biology.

Kohein Jergenson will head to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor to play football in the fall. The Crusaders are members of the American Southwest Conference and NCAA Division III. While at Grace Prep this year, Jergenson earned all district first team, all state honorable mention and academic all-state honors. He plans to major in business.

Landon Jones will be on the baseball diamond for Dallas College Mountain View next year. The Lions are members of the Dallas Athletics Conference and National Junior College Athletic Association Region 5. Jones plans to major in welding technology.

Daniel Keck will head north next fall to play football for Kansas Wesleyan University. Located in Salina, Kansas, the Coyotes are members of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and the NAIA. Keck, who plans to major in sports management, earned all-district honors as a junior and senior along with academic all-state honors in his final campaign.

Garret Lawhorne will take the football field for Texas Wesleyan University next year. The Rams are members of the Sooner Athletic Conference and the NAIA. Lawhorne earned second team all-district honors as a receiver this past fall. He plans to major in business.

James “Jay Jay” McKinney will continue his football career with Schreiner University in Kerrville. The Mountaineers are members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III. McKinney, who plans to major in engineering, was a three-time all-district offensive lineman and earned academic all-state honors as a senior.

Kolby McLean will become a War Hawk as he joins the McMurry University football team in the fall. Located in Abilene, Texas, the university is a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III. As a senior, McLean earned first team (defensive lineman) and honorable mention (offensive lineman) all-district accolades as well as academic all-state honors. He plans to major in business.
