Final Exams and Exam Exemptions
As we approach the end of the semester, we want to remind families about final exams and the opportunity for eligible high school students to earn an exam exemption. Final exams are scheduled for Monday, December 14 and Wednesday, December 16.
Who Qualifies for an Exam Exemption?
Students in grades 9–12 may qualify for one final exam exemption per semester. Exemptions are not available for AP or dual credit courses.
To qualify, students must meet all of the following requirements:
- Grades: Maintain a semester average of 90% or higher (before the honors bump) in the course for which they are requesting an exemption.
- Attendance: Have no more than five excused absences in that MWF class, or one excused absence in a class that meets only once per week.
- Behavior: Have no record of skipping the class and no disciplinary infractions above Level 1.
School-related absences for athletics, fine arts, and academic competitions do not count toward the absence limit. College visits are excused when appropriate documentation is submitted promptly to the front office.
A Few Important Reminders
- Students must complete an exemption form, provide any required documentation, and obtain a parent’s signature.
- Students who qualify may still choose to take the exam, but the grade earned will count toward their semester average.
- Students who use an exemption will not receive a final exam grade. Their semester grade will be calculated using their two quarterly grades.
When Will My Student Know if they Qualify for an Exemption?
Exemption information will be provided on Monday, November 30, in each student’s class. The exemption form students receive will be due to the appropriate teacher on Friday, December 4.
Please Check FACTS!
We encourage parents and students to review attendance records in FACTS now rather than waiting until the end of the semester. If you notice an error or an absence that needs clarification, please contact the front office and Dean of Students promptly. Attendance records and proper documentation are important in determining exemption eligibility.
Our goal is to recognize students who have demonstrated strong academic performance, consistent attendance, and responsible behavior throughout the semester. We appreciate your partnership in helping students understand the expectations and take responsibility for meeting them!
