Elementary Summer Practice Suggestions

Summer is such a gift! : ) It’s a chance to slow down a little, laugh more, stay up too late, sleep in when you can, travel, play outside, and simply enjoy being together as a family. We hope your summer is full of rest, recharge, and reconnect in moments.

At the same time, summer is also full of opportunities for kids to keep growing without it feeling like “school.” Learning can happen naturally in the middle of everyday life and meaningful experiences.

It might look like:

  • Reading together before bed or letting your child dive into books that genuinely interest them
  • Listening to audiobooks in the car on summer trips
  • Playing games, building things, cooking together, or keeping score during backyard competitions
  • Exploring museums, parks, zoos, libraries, or new places as a family
  • Asking questions, trying new things, and encouraging curiosity along the way
  • Giving kids time to create, imagine, solve problems, and wonder

Sometimes the best learning moments happen when children don’t even realize they are learning.

Our hope is that summer feels life-giving for your family while also continuing to nurture a love of learning, curiosity, and confidence in your child. We are so grateful for your partnership as co-teachers and can’t wait to see all the ways your children continue to grow this summer.

For families who would love a few more specific ideas or optional resources, we’ve included some simple summer suggestions below. Take what is helpful for your family, and we hope you enjoy the gift of summer together! : )
