An established and predictable rhythm for schoolwork, activities, downtime, and bedtime can set the stage for a successful school year. Simple routines help students know what to expect and make busy weeks easier to manage.

Take time to review school communication tools and expectations together. Make sure your student knows where to find assignment sheets, emails, and grades—and encourage them to take increasing responsibility for checking these resources.

Parents play an important role as supporters, coaches, and monitors. Ask questions, offer guidance, and encourage your student to seek help when needed.

Finally, choose one student-owned responsibility from day one, such as checking the calendar, packing a backpack, or keeping track of assignments. Student independence is built over time, not in one day!
