Health Screenings

Dear Parents,

The State of Texas requires that school children receive screenings at school. All students new to Grace Prep, and those in grades K, 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th will be screened for the following:

  • Vision: Eyes will be checked by asking student to identify letters on a chart
  • Hearing: Ears will be checked by asking student to respond to a tone in headphones
  • Acanthosis Nigricans: The back of the neck will be looked at for a darker pigment or thickened skin
  • Spinal:  Female students in 5th and 7th grade and male students in 8th grade will be screened for scoliosis, which is an abnormal curvature of the spine. This will be done by asking the student to bend over while their back is looked at. Females are asked to wear a sports bra or tight camisole to accurately assess their spine. Students will be asked to lift up their shirt to visualize spine.

Screenings will take place at Grace Preparatory Academy on October 26 and 27, 2026.  Students that are absent that day will be screened as soon as possible. If your child shows a need for further evaluation, you will be notified.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you!
